Italy: Premio Biol returns

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Premio Biol, the award that recognises the best organic extra virgin oils from all over the world, returns to Puglia in Italy. A rich programme with cultural, technical and gastronomic events will accompany the international competition. The 17th edition of Premio Biol will take place in Andria and Bari from 15 to 17 March 2012. Entries of oils from all continents are welcome before 15 February 2012.  Companies producing, bottling and commercialising organic extra virgin oil can take part here: www.premiobiol.it

The jury for the competition consists of an international panel of expert from various olive growing regions in the world. They will decide on the Premio Biol award for the best organic extra virgin oil ready for commercialising, the BiolPack prize for the best packaging with the best design and clearest label, and Bliolblended for the best blended oil not sold with the label of the producer. Premio Biol is patronised by IFOAM and the Italian Ministry for Agricultural Policy and is held in collaboration with various local companies and organisations, Greenplanet reports.

In 2011, the Sardinian extra-virgin olive oil “Sant’Andrìa” produced by Oleificio Sandro Chisu of Orosei (Nuoro) was the best organic olive oil of the competition. 380 oils from more than 19 countries were competing last year. BiolPack was awarded to the Croatian oil “Zlatno Ulje”. The children jury gave the BiolKids award to the Californian oil “Mistral” by Apollo. All participants were published in the annual BIOL catalogue, which is available at the main fairs of the sector, including BioFach in Nuremberg (Germany) and Sana in Bologna (Italy), Premio Biol reports.
