On 5 December 2011, the Foundation Ecology & Agriculture (SÖL) celebrated its 50th anniversary with a festive ceremony held in Bad Durkheim (Germany). 85-year-old foundation council chair and co-founder Dagi Kieffer commended the SÖL for its long-standing commitment to the promotion of education and health in the areas of ecology and agriculture, IFOAM reports. She stressed the continued future engagement of the foundation in preserving an agricultural model that protects natural resources such as soil and water, carries on species-appropriate animal husbandry practices and ensures people a healthy living environment. To commemorate the founder of the foundation, the Karl-Werner-Kieffer award was conferred during the ceremony to Dr. Felix Prinz zu Loewenstein for his commitment to increasing society's recognition of organic agriculture and advocating for an agriculture without genetic engineering.
