Association of organic wine producers launched in Sicily

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Fifteen producers of organic wine in Sicily have launched the association Vi.Bio.Si. The association was officially presented in Palermo during a conference and exhibition of their products with a tasting side on 26 November 2011, Greenplanet reports. Numerous experts were present who have stressed the importance of the initiative. Among these were Ignatio Garau, head of the wine fair BiodiVino, the Director General of the Regional Institute of Vines and Wine Dario Cartabellotta, and the nutritionist and national president of ONAV (the national organization of wine tasters) Giorgio Calabrese.

Sicily holds the Italian record of organic vineyards with about 10,000 hectares. This is almost one third of the national area, which amounts to more than 34,000 hectares. The new association has therefore considerable potential for growth if it has the ability to aggregate further producers.
