Vivaness: Continuing growth for natural cosmetics

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The German natural cosmetics market is growing continuously. After 11 % growth and 795 million euros sales in 2010, experts currently expect single-digit growth for 2011 – and this despite the current overall economic situation, Nürnberg Messe reports. This means the 800 million euros mark will be appreciably exceeded for the first time. The variety in the green cosmetics market is also growing. Consumers are becoming more and more critical and demand authentic, safe and sustainably manufactured products. Today’s consumers are increasingly using the Internet and social media as an information platform and for exchanging views. The product spectrums of the natural cosmetics pioneers, but also private labels – mainly the drugstore chains – shape the range offered, but the classic cosmetics industry has also recently started investing more in this segment. Germany, with a market share of 6.2 %, leads the natural cosmetics ranking in Europe. (Picture: Vivaness 2011)

The dynamic growth of the natural cosmetics market segment in France continues, as reported by expert Jeanne Christiansen, Marketing Director, Groupe Léa Nature SA (F), at this year’s Natural Cosmetics Conference in Berlin. Until a few years ago, cosmetics of natural origin were still a niche market, now the customers are providing growth rates of some 30 % for these products. The customer reach is developing rapidly: 7 % of French women bought natural cosmetics in 2007, as many as 25 % in 2010. The annual per capita spending on cosmetics in France is about 230 euros. The some 4 % of the total market held by natural cosmetics makes the market there the second largest in Europe. Important sales channels are supermarkets and pharmacies, increasingly the so-called para-pharmacies too. Whereas specialist organic shops rely on tested quality, ethical values and sustainability for their products, the organic aspect makes way for effectiveness in pharmacies and para-pharmacies, and price and image play the major role in the supermarkets. The development of the natural cosmetics market will continue to be exciting in the future too. New products, concepts and manufacturers from all over the world will present their products at Vivaness, the Trade Fair for Natural Personal Care and Wellness, in the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg from 15 to 18 February 2012.
