The third edition of Expoalimentaria 2011 will run in Lima, Peru, from 28 to September 2011. The Scotiabank-sponsored trade show, already recognized as the most important Latin American business platform for the food and beverage sector, is organized by ADEX with support from PromPeru, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and ProInversion. Expoalimentaria 2011 will cover an area of 18,000 square meters, 50 % more than last year, and 22,000 Peruvian visitors and 850 international buyers are expected, also an increase over last year’s numbers.

There will be 521 stands, 390 of which will display Peruvian products, and 131 stands will feature foreign companies from Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, as well as from European countries like France, Portugal and Germany. At the Innovation Hall, some of the newest products of the agricultural and fishing sector will receive awards. The Natura Pavilion is the main platform focused on the promotion of natural, organic and Fair Trade products. It aims to boost sustainable business and to diffuse relevant information for natural products and ingredients. Various Peruvian producers will display showcase their products like Machu Picchu Foods, producer of chocolate, cacao, café and sweets; Algarrobos Orgánicos, manufacturer of products like honey, pollen and sugar; and Peruvian Nature, producer of medical plants, fruits and vegetables, Andean grains and cereals, extracts and snacks, as well as supplements and functional foods. (Pictures: impressions from Expoalimentaria 2010)

According to the Vice President of the Exporters Association of Peru (ADEX), the fair is expected to generate USD 140 million in business deals. The Vice President also stressed the importance of positioning Peru as an international food provider, stating that Peru already was the number one exporter of asparagus and paprika, and the number one producer and vendor of cochineal.
