Spain: Intermón Oxfam launches new products

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Oxfam has launched Bio Cola, their first organic and fair trade certified cola, made with sugar from a cooperative in Paraguay. Two types of breakfast cereals were also introduced - flakes with organic honey and puffed rice cereals coated with chocolate - both made with organic and fair trade ingredients. The flakes and cereals are made with cane sugar from the cooperative Manduvira in Paraguay as well. The rice comes from the cooperative Ojrpg in Thailand, and the chocolate is made with cocoa from cooperatives belonging to Conacado in the Dominican Republic and in Peru. Cola, flakex and cereals are now available in more than 40 Oxfam shops throughout Spain.

Manduvira, producer of certified organic and fair trade raw cane sugar, is located in Arroyos y Esteros, Cordillera, in Paraguay. It focuses on supporting small farmers living in poor conditions. The cooperative Ojrpg (Organic Jasmine Rice Producers Group) has 617 members and concentrates on the production of Jasmine Paddy rice in organic quality. Ojrpg has been fair trade certified since 2002 and the number of their partners has doubled since 2006. Farm families are located in 200 villages in one of the poorest regions of northeastern Thailand. Conacado is a democratic organisation for small producers of cocoa in the Dominican Republic. Founded in 1988, it now comprises about 150 associations of small producers with more than 8,500 people involved.
