Natural cosmetics booming worldwide

The segment for natural cosmetic products has developed extremely encouragingly on the international scene. According to estimation by Organic Monitor, the growth rate in 2010 was around 4 %, and experts expect a steady upward trend. Clear proof of the global trend and the potential in this segment is the fact that many large international cosmetic companies are entering the market with their own natural cosmetic labels and dynamic start-up companies provide an additional stimulus.

The German sector grew by 11 % in 2010 (2009: +7 %), which meant that goods worth around 795 million euros were sold in Europe’s top-selling market for natural cosmetics last year. Natural cosmetics also enjoy great popularity in France, Europe’s second largest market: their share of the total market is around 4 %. Sales are also continuing to develop well in the Italian retail trade – including pharmacies, “Erboristerias” and organic food shops. According to Organic Monitor and the Italian certifier CCPB, these are to rise from about 250 million euros at present to 394 million euros by 2014. Italy holds third place in the European ranking after France and Germany. Experts currently see great future potential for natural beauty products in Russia, where the demand is growing and more and more companies are discovering the country, Vivaness reports.

Vivaness, the trade fair for natural personal care and wellness, celebrated its fifth birthday parallel to BioFach in February this year. 198 exhibitors from 22 countries joined the celebrations, world market leaders as well as newcomers. The fair grew appreciably over the year before with an additional 15 manufacturers. Vivaness also launched the special show Breeze last year, with products presented by 10 trendy niche brands and young labels. The successful premiere of Breeze promises a brilliant second edition from 15 to 18 February 2012, when the international market for natural cosmetics will present its products again. (Picture: Vivaness 2011)
