Tunisia: Organic store at exhibition centre

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

As part of the national development program for organic farming in Tunisia, an organic shop was opened at the International Exhibition Centre in Soukra on 26 June 2011, AIAB reports. It is a further step to promote organic products in the country, after BioExpo  took place in May at the same location. Tunisians then had a chance to get in contact with organic producers and to learn more about the philosophy of an organic lifestyle. (Picture: Ancient olive tree in Tunisia)

The sales point for organic products in Soukra is supplied by local producers and aims to help promoting organics in the country, which is not commonly known there yet by the locals, according to the Tunisian Minister of Agriculture. The store therefore can play an important role in the process of developing organic farming in the country and can become a meeting place for organic producers, consumers and everyone involved or interested in the trade.

The development of organic farming in this country is promising considering the climate and the natural resources, AIAB reports. Also, the government aims to double the area dedicated to organic farming to 550,000 hectares by 2014 to increase the presence of organic products on the international markets.
