Italy: Città del Bio and FederBio sign memorandum

FederBio, the Italian Federation of Organic and Biodynamic Agriculture and Città del Bio, the Association of Municipalities for the Promotion of Organic Farming, have signed a Memorandum of Agreement to jointly work for the development of organics in public and private catering. The collaboration between the two companies aims to take advantage of the business opportunities that catering in schools and hospitals offers for Italian products, and, at the same time, to use the potential of the sector for food ecucation and health.

The work plan based on the agreement includes, among others: the establishment of a national coordination group to discuss issues of public catering; the establishment of reference points; interaction with local authorities and taking action in critical situations; monitoring the development of market prices of organics in catering, identification of strategies for the improvement of catering services; the collection of examples of good practice in Italy and Europe; the collection of statistics; and the enhancement of the role of organics in the sector.
