Canada: Beland joins carbon neutral program

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Beland Organic Foods has gone carbon neutral for their Canadian Heritage Organics Maple products and their Kathrein's Organic Unpasteurized Sauerkraut with probiotics by joining the Boreal Carbon as the first company in the organic food market. With this move, it contributes to the overall success of the Boreal carbon neutral program, with which so far over 158,000 trees in the Boreal forest of Québec have been planted. Beland Organic Foods bought carbon credits to buy and plant trees to offset their GHG emissions linked to all the deliveries made in 2010. The equivalence of 15 tonnes of Co2 was offset by the planting of 107 trees.

Beland Organic Foods was established in 1992 and is an organic food broker, wholesaler, and the producer of Canadian Heritage Organics Maple products and Karthein’s Organic Unpasteurized Sauerkraut with probiotics. With offices in Vancouver (British Columbia) and Québec (Québec), the company distributes all over Canada. Most major health food stores, as well as chains and supermarkets in the organic sector are supplied, with help of major distibutors such as United Natural Foods (UNFI) and Ontario Natural Food Co-op (ONFC).
