by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The winners of the 16th Biol Prizes were announced in the historical building Chiostro di San Francesco at the end of a scientific forum on perspectives on organic olive growing, which took place on 28 April 2011. Various other events like tasting sessions and seminars, guided visits, exhibitions, and social gatherings moments, made Andria in Apulia (Italy) the international centre of the organic olive oil world during that day. The new producers association Biolitalia was launched as well.

The Sardinian extra-virgin olive oil “Sant’Andrìa”, produced by Oleificio Sandro Chisu of Orosei (Nuoro), is the winner of the Biol Prize 2011. The best blended oil is “Bios” by Monini, bottled by S.I.O. Gargano, and the best packaging, honoured with the Biolpack Prize, is the packaging of the Croatian oil “Zlatno Ulje”. A children jury chose the Californian oil "Mistral" by Apollo to be the best oil, which will be awarded the Biolkids Prize.

“The international jury “, Biol coordinator Nino Paparella stated, “recognized the high quality of the sixty oils that reached the highest positions, with minimal differences among one another. The jury highlighted the increasing quality of Italian oils, and the importance of the participation of so many Mediterranean countries that are currently undergoing uprising and crackdowns. All participants are united here under the olive branch, a symbol of peace”. The winners will receive their prizes during the event “B-To-Bio” at the Milan Fair on 8 May 2011. All participants will be published in the yearly BIOL catalogue, which is offered at the main fairs of the sector, including BioFach in Nuremberg (Germany) and Sana in Bologna (Italy).
