by Redaktion (comments: 0)

Altogether 555 organic wines were entered by producers and importers for tasting and judging by wine experts from all over the world for the 2nd Mundus Vini BioFach International Organic Wine Award in Neustadt an der Weinstraße in December 2010. The awards will be presented to the winners at 11 a.m. on the first day of BioFach, 16 February 2011, in hall 4A (stand 640). A total of 193 medals have been awarded: 3 Special Gold, 71 Gold and 119 Silver.

The German winegrowers were particularly successful. The experts gave 48 medals – almost a quarter of all awards – to organic wines from Germany. In the overall ranking, Germany is followed by great winegrowing nations like Spain with 40 (9 Gold, 31 Silver), Italy with 38 (15 Gold, 23 Silver) and France with 19 medals (6 Gold, 13 Silver).

„As with conventionally produced wines, there are also quality differences in the organic wine segment. This is why more and more organic wine producers seek a direct comparison of their wines,” says Christoph Meininger, Chief Executive Officer of Mundus Vini GmbH, explaining the continuing response from the producers. Udo Funke, Director Exhibitions, BioFach and Vivaness, at NürnbergMesse: “The high quality of the organic wines presented at this year’s competition is really impressive again. The strict judging criteria and the results achieved – as many as 3 Special Gold medals – show that organic winegrowers produce great wines; they are not only experts in their trade, but real artists!” (Picture: Organic wine at a former edition of BioFach)
