FiBL has recently published the latest data on organic agriculture in Peru at Organic-World.Net. Data was provided by the competent authority for organic agriculture SENASA. In 2009, Peru had a total of 445,852 hectares of organic land. Of these, 54,905 hectares were in transition and 390,947 hectares were certified organic (including wild collection). The departments of Junín, Cusco, and Loreto  had the largest organic areas.

In the past three years, the organic market grew considerably in the country, just like the number of organic farmers did. Most of the approximately 55,000 farmers were concentrated in the departments of Cusco, Cajamarca, and Junín. The most important organic products were chestnut, coffee, palmito, cocoa, andean grains, and mangos. Many other products were also grown and exported in smaller quantities. The National Authority SENASA supervises the activities of certification bodies that work in the country. In 2009, the certification bodies registered by SENASA were BCS Ôko Garantie Perú S.A.C., Control Union Perú S.A.C., IMO Control Latinoamerica Perú S.A.C. and International OCIA Perú S.A.C.
