MOM’s Organic Market, the Baltimore-Washington metro area’s grocery chain, announced the opening of its new store in Bowie, Maryland, on a sales area of 10,000 square feet (more than 900 square meters). The celebration will take place February 13th through the 15th, 2009. Opening festivities will include free grocery bags to the first 50 customers, kid friendly activities, food tastings including local cheeses, fresh organic produce, locally roasted organic coffee, as well as free samples, raffles, and prizes.

The sixth MOM's store will provide area residents with a large variety of produce, which is all organic. The grocery department, which makes up the majority of the sales area, has a very large percentage of certified organic products. Products that are not certified organic are free of artificial preservatives, flavours, colours, sweeteners (including high fructose syrup), and hydrogenated oils. In the perishables department, the majority of  fresh meats and milk are certified organic, and products that are not are free of antibiotics and growth hormones. Additionally, all meat is free of nitrates and nitrites. MOM's bulk foods Department is largely stocked with certified organic nuts, grains, and legumes. All products in the bulk department are free of sulfites. Artisanal cheeses and breads, sustainable seafood, gluten-free foods, supplements, body care products, environmentally friendly household goods, and holistic pet products are also offered.
