UK: Prince Charles promotes organic wool

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

According to The Times, Prince Charles is trying to strenghten and promote the wool industry in Great Britain. Among other measures, he has announced to launch a new organic label, which is to offer items made of the traditional natural material exclusively. To attract the interest of the fashion industry he also plans to initiate a „Wool Week“, which is to take place directly before the London Fashion Week in September 2010.

At the same time, Duchy Originals, the organic brand of Prince Charles, obviously struggles to survive. The British heir to the throne founded the enterprise 19 years ago aiming at supporting his charity organisations with the sales of his high-quality products. But while the project was said to have made a profit of 1.8 million € in 2007, turnover decreased to 68,000 € in 2008. Eight of the 23 employees have lost their jobs already. The British supermarket chain Waitrose, according to some sources, has evinced interest to buy the company.
