UK: Sales of organics are rising at Tesco

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

According to the latest sales data from Tesco, shoppers are starting to return to fairtrade and organic produce. An earlier survey had revealed that consumers were continuing to shun the most upmarket ranges. In order to boost sales of organic and fairtrade food, Tesco had range reviews leading to better offers and subsequently increased sales, Talking Retail reports.

Fairtrade beer, wine and spirits were rising by more than 50 % in the last year, and Fairtrade produce went up by 15 %, and organic produce went up 52 % since November. Tesco brands senior marketing manager Stephanie Stewart said that while it was too early to say that the company was seeing recovery from the recession, rising demand for ethical and premium food brands were offering optimistic signs. Even though a successful Discounter range had been launched last year, she continued, the company had not taken their eye off other brands and ethical ranges and through improved offers they were now starting to see sales rise again.
