Poland: Coalition for Fair Trade launched

by Redaktion (comments: 0)

The most important polish NGO's as well as some companies and individuals connected with ecological and Fair Trade movements want to unite their actions in order to popularize the idea in Poland. The Coalition for Fair Trade was created during a meeting in Warsaw on March 16, 2009. Its statue has been consulted with FLO Int. and TransFair Germany. The organizations which have announced to join the coalition are: The Association of Organisations Polish Green Net (Zwi¹zek Stowarzyszeñ Polska Zielona Sieæ), Polish Humanitarian Action (Polska Akcja Humanitarna) , EFTE Group (Grupa EFTE) and the Foundation for Supporting Ecological Initiatives (Fundacja Wspierania Inicjatyw Ekologicznych). The website of the Coalition for Fair Trade is http://www.fairtrade.org.pl/

According to Karol Przybylak from BioKurier, the knowledge of the Fair Trade movement and its logos is still very low in Poland. The products - mostly coffee, tea and cocoa - are available in some organic shops, in web shops and in a few supermarket chains (Alma, Bomi and E. Leclerc). The only company which has been allowed to produce Fair Trade coffee in Poland since February 9, 2009 is the Java Coffe Company.
