100 % Organic Bananas

According to the latest figures released by Agro y Agroindustria, Promperu, the world’s main exporters of fresh bananas in 2005 were Ecuador and Cost Rica – the main importing countries were the United States and Belgium.
Peru only exports organic bananas. In 2006, the export of the produce accounted for almost US$ 27 million. Compared with the previous year, this means an increase of 50 % of volume, and of 33 % of turnover.

98 % of the exported bananas were fresh and 2 % were processed into dried bananas. They were mainly exported to Belgium, the Netherlands and the US. Organic bananas from Peru were also shipped to Spain, Ecuador, Colombia, Portugal and France.
